OTTAWA - Dominik Hasek Tuesday signed with the Ottawa Senators, who hope the 39-year-old goaltender can return to the form that made him one of the NHL's greats.

The move was not a surprise. Ottawa received permission from Detroit to speak with Hasek even before the Czech star became an unrestricted free agent last Thursday.

Hasek, a two-time league MVP, played just 14 games last season for Detroit because of a groin injury.
