Baby Penguins get even in AHL playoff series
HARTFORD, Conn. - Matt Murley's empty-net goal with 30 seconds left proved to be the game-winner as the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins beat the Hartford Wolf Pack 5-4 Sunday night in Game 4 of the American Hockey League's Eastern Conference finals.
The best-of-seven series is tied 2-2. Game 5 is Tuesday night in Hartford.
The Penguins took a 4-3 lead on Eric Meloche's power-play goal with 8:27 left. Meloche scored from 20 feet in the slot after a strange bounce out of the left corner.
After Murley's empty-netter, Hartford's Jeff Paul scored with 6 seconds remaining.
Kris Beech scored the game's first two goals and assisted on Tom Kotsopoulos' goal as Wilkes-Barre/Scranton took a 3-1 lead at 11:58 of the second period.
But the Wolf Pack, who had won two games in a row and 10 of 11, twice rallied from two-goal deficits to tie.
Former Penguins wing Jason MacDonald made it 2-1 at 4:20 of the second. Then after Kotsopoulos gave the Penguins their second two-goal lead, Jozef Balej and MacDonald scored in the final 6:42 of the second period.
Sebastian Caron, making his first start in the series, had 19 saves for the Penguins. Jason LaBarbera made 35 saves for the Wolf Pack.
