The Grove City College baseball team qualified for the President's Athletic Conference baseball tournament and will play Washington & Jefferson (16-14, 8-7) at 3 p.m. Thursday at Bethany (W.Va.) College.Grove City is 11-17 overall, 8-7 in the PAC, and is the tournament's No. 3 seed.
Katie Dellich, a senior on the Robert Morris College women's tennis team, closed out her college career last weekend at the Northeast Conference Championships in Princeton, N.J.Dellich, a 2000 Butler graduate, won her singles and doubles matches against Fairleigh Dickinson, Wagner and Quinnipiac. She finished her collegiate career with a 67-13 record in singles matches; 70-10 in doubles matches. She spent her first two years of college at West Liberty State (W. Va.).Dellich plans to attend the Van Der Meer Tennis Academy in Hilton Head, S.C., to train to play on the women's pro tour this fall.
Hilary McCall, a sophomore on the Mercyhurst College women's golf team, was named Female Athlete of the Week.McCall, a graduate of A-C Valley, has been the lowest scoring Laker in four of five events this season. She also leads the squad in scoring average.McCall tied for 19th in the GLIAC Championship with rounds of 85 and 91. She also placed 11th in the Ashland Invitational with rounds of 81 and 86.
Joe Boros and Tom Buckner of Treesdale Golf and Country Club tied for fourth place at the Tri-State PGA Golf Tournament at Treesdale Monday.In the better-ball tourney, which featured 35 teams, the duo fired a 32-33. John Aubrey Sr. and John Benson of Aubrey's Dubbs Dred Golf Course fired a 35-32 to tie for seventh place.In the low pro event, Boros carded a 34-36-70 to place second out of 25.
Slippery Rock High School graduate Jason Curry drove in three runs and Seneca Valley graduate Nathan Statzer went 3-for-5 with two RBI as the Slippery Rock University baseball team rolled to a 12-4 win over Westminster College Monday night.Adam Ritts pitched seven innings, striking out 11 and walking just one.Mars graduate Josh Rape pitched the final two innings for The Rock (30-21).
