In Brief

Slippery Rock University's Karyn McCready won the College Division women's javelin title at the Penn Relays at Franklin Field in Philadelphia Thursday.

McCready's throw of 155 feet, 2 inches is the second-longest recorded by an NCAA Division II competitor this spring and earned her an automatic berth in the national championships May 27-29 in Walnut, Calif.

The longest throw this spring is 157-9¼ by Lacy Adkisson of Tarleton State.

McCready's throw was 11 inches shy of her personal best and school-record throw of 156-1 last year. She earned All-American honors with a fourth-place at nationals two years ago and third-place last year.

The two-time PSAC champion will try for her third straight crown May 13-15 at SRU's N. Kerr Thompson Stadium.
