Pioneers split with PSU-Beaver

The Butler County Community College softball team split a double-header against Penn State-Beaver Wednesday.

In the first game, Stephanie Burgard and Kayla Thompson collected three hits each as the Pioneers won 10-2. Jody Irwin doubled twice and Andrea Pakutz doubled once in support of winning pitcher April Vogel, who struck out four in five innings.

The second game saw the Pioneers lose 9-4, despite collecting 14 hits. Bry Rhoadaberger and Burgard both tallied three hits, while Thompson and Sarah Callender doubled. Callender shouldered the loss, striking out six in a complete game.

The split came a day after the team lost both ends of a doubleheader to Community College of Beaver County by scores of 8-0 and 5-4.

Vogel took the loss in the first contest.

Callender gave up just three hits in the second game while Thompson singled twice and Rhoadberger had two base hits and two RBI.

The Pioneers (4-6) will play two games today at Penn State-New Kensington.
