The Grove City College women's water polo team earned its first-ever victory over Slippery Rock University Tuesday night, defeating The Rock 8-7.
Jessica Zedaker, Katie Flaherty and Lauren Schade all scored twice for Grove City. Julie Zedaker had 14 saves in goal.
Grove City extended its single-season school record for victories to 15 and will compete in the Collegiate Water Polo Association Championships in Ann Arbor, Mich., this weekend.
Slippery Rock High School graduate Greg Grupp, a senior on the Grove City College baseball team, was named President's Athletic Conference Hitter of the Week.Grupp batted .667 (8-for-12) with two doubles, a home run, four runs scored and five RBI in three games. He is on an eight-game hitting streak and leads the team with a .424 batting average, .661 slugging percentage and .426 on-base percentage.
The Butler Area Sports Hall of Fame Board of Directors will honor PIAA swimming champion Josh Barthlow of Butler High School at the annual banquet April 24 at the Butler Days Inn.
Union coach Josh Meeker will guide the North squad and Karns City coach Chris Bellis will lead the South in the Clarion County Branch YMCA's fifth annual All-Star Girls Basketball Game at 2 p.m. Saturday at Clarion High School.The boys all-star game follows at 4 p.m. Tickets are $3 per person, $10 per family. Children age 5 and under will be admitted free.Union's Briana Wensel and Leia Mortimer will play for the North. Six Karns City girls, Katie Kepple, Laura Seyler, Ariel Venesky, Alicia Kerschbaumer, Emily Bly and Stephanie DeVore, will play for the South, along with A-C Valley's Ashley Jackson and Jessica Hickman, and Moniteau's Brittany Beachem.
Butler senior Heather Spangler will be among the players participating in Saturday's Pittsburgh Hoops World Classic at the Petersen Events Center on the University of Pittsburgh campus.The first of four all-star games - two for girls, two for boys - begins at 2 p.m. Tickets are $5 and are available at the door.
