California (Pa.) had 10 home runs in picking up a pair of wins against Slippery Rock University's women's softball team Saturday, including an NCAA Division II record eight in the nightcap.

The Vulcans won the first game 8-1, then tacked on a 19-8 triumph in the second contest.

Bobbi Kyler homered to account for the Rock's only run.

In the second game, Maureen Brown, Jesse Gump and Shannon Tagliaferri each had solo home runs for SRU.

Laura Ryhal won the women's heptathlon title and Tony Mehalic the men's decathlon crown to headline The Rock's effort at the PSAC West Challenge Multi-Events competition at Indiana (Pa.) Friday.Ryhal had a total of 4,331 points in the event, approximately 70 points shy of earning a provisional berth in the NCAA Division II national championships.As part of the heptathlon, Ryhal earned a provisional berth in the javelin with a throw of 144 feet, 7 inches - the seventh longest throw by a D-11 competitor this spring.SRU's Lauren Walters placed fifth in the heptathlon with 3,679 points.Mehalic scored 6,008 points in winning the decathlon while teammate Bill Jordan was second with 5,678 points.The remainder of the PSAC West Challenge was completed on Saturday.
