The outfielder signed a minor league contract with Texas during the off-season. He hit .222 (8-for-36) with a homer and six RBI in 23 exhibition games with the Rangers this spring.
PHILADELPHIA - The Los Angeles Dodgers acquired troubled outfielder Milton Bradley from the Cleveland Indians in a trade Sunday for a minor leaguer and a player to be named.The deal capped a tumultuous week for the Indians' cleanup hitter. He was pulled from an exhibition game Wednesday by manager Eric Wedge for failing to run out a pop fly that dropped, barred from training camp the next day and later sent to the minors.The Dodgers sent outfielder Franklin Gutierrez to Cleveland.
JUPITER, Fla. - The New York Mets traded outfielder Roger Cedeno to the St. Louis Cardinals on Saturday for backup catcher Chris Widger and infielder Wilson Delgado.The speedy Cedeno was a huge disappointment after signing an $18 million, four-year contract with the Mets before the 2002 season. The Cardinals also get cash considerations in the deal.During his first stint with the Mets, Cedeno stole 66 bases and batted .313 in 1999. He hit .293 with 55 steals for the Tigers in 2001.But he struggled with subpar defense and poor instincts as the Mets finished last in the NL East the past two years.
VANCOUVER, British Columbia - Edmonton Oilers center Adam Oates announced his retirement minutes after the Oilers were eliminated from playoff contention with a 5-2 loss Saturday night to the Vancouver Canucks.The 41-year-old Oates completed his 19th NHL season with 341 goals and 1,079 assists in 1,337 games.
