Shannon Holt was named to the Collegiate Water Polo Association's Division II All-Eastern Regional team last weekend after leading The Rock to a second-place finish in the regional tourney last weekend at Queens College (N.Y.).
Holt and Erika Brunner each scored a total of 11 goals in four games for SRU (4-10).
Brunner scored six goals and Holt five in an 18-8 win over Salem International. Kim Adams and A-C Valley graduate Amanda Zychowski each had three goals and Heather Bright one goal while goalie Kelly Leibolt had nine saves.
In a 14-3 loss to eventual champion Gannon, Adams had two goals and Brunner had one.
SRU followed with a 14-13 win over Queens, thanks to five goals by Holt, including a buzzer-beater for the win.
Adams added three goals, Butler graduate Mollie Nadler and Lisa Sobocinski had two apiece, and Brunner and Zychowski had one apiece.
In the championship matchup, The Rock fell to Gannon again, this time by a 15-4 decision. Brunner had three goals and Holt added one.
Freshman 149-pounder Ben Young was the only Rock wrestler to record a win at the NCAA Division I National Championships last weekend at St. Louis.Young (22-18) defeated Tony Hook of Oregon State by injury default Friday in first-round consolations before losing a 15-0, technical fall to Matt Storniolo of Penn State.In other first-round consolation matches Friday, freshman Ben Watson (125) lost 13-7 to Peter Derstine of Clarion to fall to 25-10 on the season, junior co-captain Brad Cieleski (34-6) lost 10-4 to James Woodall of Penn State and Jason Cardillo (28-14) lost 15-4 to Kelly Flaherty of Wisconsin.
A 6-3 loss to Millersville Saturday dropped The Rock to 8-5 on the season.Jessica Bungo won 6-1, 6-3 at No. 1 singles, Ashley Michaux won 7-6 (1), 6-1 at No. 2 singles and Kelly Anderson won 6-2, 6-2 at No. 4 singles.
Rich Moore won the No. 2 singles match 6-1, 4-6, 11-9 to account for The Rock's only point in an 8-1 loss to Millersville Saturday.The Rock fell to 1-10 with the loss.
