The FCA Gems All-Star Cheerleaders competed this past weekend in the Keystone Games held at Penn State University and came away with three championships.

The senior squad (grades four through 10) captured the Senior Open class and won the Grand Championship Trophy by having the high score of the day in the Senior All-Girls and Coed Division.

The elementary squad (grades kindergarten through four) took first place in the Pee Wee class and won the Grand Championship Trophy by having the high score of the ninth-grade-and-under division.

The senior team also won the state championship at the University of Pittsburgh.

Both teams will advance to the American Cheer Power nationals in April in Columbus, Ohio.

Members of the cheer squads are from the Butler, Seneca Valley, Freeport, South Butler, Highlands, Lower Burrell, Kiski Area and Ford City school districts. All FCA coaches are former Butler varsity cheerleaders.

Slippery Rock University basketball players Jajuan Davis and Stacey Green were named second-team All-PSAC West performers.Davis, a 6-foot-2 junior guard, averaged 11.4 points per game and led the 14-team PSAC with a 91.9 percent free-throw shooting average.Green, a 6-foot junior forward, led The Rock in scoring (15.3) and rebounding (7.6). She was sixth in the PSAC in scoring, 10th in free-throw percentage (74.8) and 11th in rebounding.Green is the 13th player in Rock women's basketball history to score 1,000 points and is fourth in the all-time rebounds with 714.

Brian Belowich, a senior at Carnegie Mellon University, will be competing at the NCAA Division III Swimming Championships March 18 through 20 at St. Peter's (Mo.).Belowich, a graduate of Butler High School, will take part in the 400 medley relay for the Tartans, who, under head coach David Belowich, Brian's father, went 7-0 in dual meets to record their fourth consecutive undefeated season.At the NCAA meet, Belowich swam the breaststroke leg for the relay team that recorded its best time of 3 minutes, 26.38 seconds.Belowich helped the Tartans place second at the UAA Championships meet last month, placing sixth and seventh in the 100 and 200 breaststrokes, respectively.
