An Oct. 23 wedding is being planned by Carrie Birckbichler of Chicora and Darrell "Spike" Smith of Linesville.

The bride-to-be is the daughter of Stephen and Donna Birckbichler of Chicora. Parents of the prospective bridegroom are Douglas and Susan Smith of Linesville.

The bride-elect graduated in 1997 from Butler High School and in 2002 from Slippery Rock University, earning bachelor's degrees in math, and safety and environmental management. She works for the Nalco Company in Ellwood City.

Her fiancé graduated in 1997 from Linesville High School and is pursuing a bachelor's degree in health and physical education at Slippery Rock University. He also served in the U.S. Navy Seabees. He is in the U.S. Navy Reserves in Erie.
