Authority mulls gaming license

The City of Butler Parks, Recreation Grounds and Facilities Authority considered applying for a small games of chance license at a Monday meeting.

Jeff Smith, the authority's liaison with Butler City Council, was present at the meeting, and said the members of the authority were looking into possibly hosting raffles at games at Michelle Krill Field at Historic Pullman Park. He said the solicitor would be looking into the possibility for the nonprofit that was recently created by the authority to apply for the license.

“They talked about wanting to be able to do 50-50 drawings,” Smith said. “They weren't interested really in doing skill games or anything like that.”

According to the Butler County Treasurer's website, only qualifying eligible organizations that have been in existence at least one year may apply for a small games of chance license.

“Charitable, religious, fraternal or veterans clubs that hold a liquor license and is an exempt organization under section 501 (c) or 527 of the Internal Revenue Service code are eligible for this license,” the website said.
