Scoop continues flying high with football picks
My .814 winning percentage through three weeks of the high school football season stands tall — a testament to this bird's ability to prognotsticate.
But I would be lying if I said I didn't feel a little uneasy. A 22-5 record is impressive, though I could be due for a bad week.
Predicting games correctly requires a clear head. With that in mind, I just flew over Lake Arthur. That always keeps things in perspective for me.
Let's see if I sink or swim this week ... I'm actually not good in the water, unless it's to take a bird bath.
One thing's for sure: Week 4 won't be a bore.
Hempfield at Seneca Valley — The Raiders showed their mettle the last two weeks, beating Pine-Richland with a late touchdown drive and winning on the road against a tough North Hills team.
The Spartans are in trouble.
Score: Seneca Valley 33-10
Greensburg Salem at Knoch — The Knights picked up their first win last Friday at Deer Lakes. They make it back-to-back victories against the Golden Lions.
Score: Knoch 17-15
Highlands at Mars — The Planets have returned to a run-heavy offense and running back Evan Wright looked good in a loss to New Castle.
Highlands, though, is riding high at 3-0.
Score: Highlands 31-17
North Catholic at Valley — The Trojans received a scare last week, winning an 18-17 decision over Blackhawk.
This one will not be close.
Score: North Catholic 47-8
Karns City at Moniteau — KC's offense is hitting on all cylinders. This is a backyard rivalry and Moniteau will keep it interesting, but the undefeated Gremlins continue to roll.
Score: Karns City 34-16
Union/A-C Valley at Otto-Eldred — COVID kept the Falcon Knights off the field last week. Their return will be a dominant one.
Score: Union/A-C Valley 31-6
Grove City at Slippery Rock — I had to think long and hard about this one.
Slippery Rock's defense has looked really good so far. The Rockets get to prove just how good they are against a very strong Grove City offense.
Score: Slippery Rock 21-17
Summit Academy at New Castle — Summit is a Class 2A team, and a very small one at that.
New Castle is 4A and has too much firepower for the Knights.
Score: New Castle 40-12
Butler at McDowell — I was very impressed with Butler's defensive effort in last week's victory over Meadville.
The Golden Tornado keep this one close, but McDowell prevails.
Score: McDowell 20-14
