2 Philly men involved in Brady St. bust
The Butler County Drug Task Force filed charges Tuesday against two Philadelphia men who allegedly sold drugs out of a Brady Street apartment in Butler.
Khaleaf Q. Lindsay, 25, and Kamal Bennett, 22, were charged with multiple felonies after task force members found heroin, crack cocaine and oxycodone inside an apartment where they were staying, according to charging documents.
Lindsay is charged with three counts of possession with intent to sell, one count of possessing a firearm and and one count of conspiracy, all felonies. Bennett is charged with five felony counts of possession with intent to sell and one count of conspiracy.
Following their arraignment Tuesday morning by District Judge Sue Haggerty, both men were taken to Butler County Prison, where they remain in lieu of $100,000 bond each.
According to detectives, the task force was conducting surveillance on an apartment on the 200 block of West Brady Street because of suspected drug activity.
Detectives said Bennett exited the apartment, walk to Dunkin' and got into a red car. The car traveled a short distance before Bennett exited the vehicle. Police stopped the car.
“A female driver was identified and stated she purchased $50 worth of crack cocaine from Bennett and that it was on the center console of the vehicle,” said the investigating detective.
Detectives then arrested Bennett, during which time they allegedly found 13 corner baggies containing suspected crack cocaine and a $50 bill.
Detectives continued to watch the apartment and saw Lindsay, who was known to have an active arrest warrant, leave the apartment. Lindsay stopped in the Dunkin' parking lot, where he was arrested.
Detectives said they talked to the apartment's owner, who said the men were staying in one of the bedrooms. Detectives said they obtained a search warrant and found two black bags in the room.
Combined between the bags, detectives allegedly found 3.55 ounces of suspected crack cocaine, which often sold in grams. Also found were 225 stamp bags of suspected heroin, which is a little more than four bricks; 19 pills of suspected Oxycodone; $1,280 cash; and a .380-caliber pistol.
According to court records, Kamal does not appear to have a prior record; however, in 2016, Lindsay pleaded guilty to multiple felony charges in relation to a heroin ring in Montgomery County. Lindsay served time in prison for that offense.
Both men are scheduled for a preliminary hearing Monday before District Judge William Fullerton.
