Glade Run Lutheran Services plans food truck fest Aug. 14

Glade Run Lutheran Services is bringing back its Family Food Truck Festival from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 14 at its facility in Zelienople.

The event will feature a car cruise, cornhole competition, raffles, a DJ and at least five food trucks. The Zelienople Rotary will also hold a community yard sale in the gym of Glade Run Lutheran Services, 30 Glade Run Drive.

“We did it back in 2019, and obviously 2020 was kind of a bust and we weren't able to do it last year, but we're bringing it back this year,” said Cheryl Martin, development and marketing coordinator at Glade Run Lutheran Services.

“The food truck festival is a fundraiser,” she said. “It directly benefits all the kids, families and adults who do all of our programs. All of the money that we raise goes back into the programs.”

In 2019, the festival drew about 700 attendees and raised somewhere between $7,000 and $8,000.

“We're hoping to do better than that this year,” Martin said. “We actually have surpassed that in sponsorships so far, so hopefully we will have a successful year.”

Sponsors include UPMC Health Plan, Grant Street Asset Management, Band Together Pittsburgh and TriState Capital.

Attendees can sign up for a cornhole tournament competition online or in person at the festival.

“We've had some interest in it,” Martin said. “We had people inquire if that was something that we were going to do, and we decided that since it's kind of popular in the area, we thought we'd add it in this year and see if that would be a draw.”

In the past, staff, program participants and outside visitors have attended the festival.

“There were quite a few community members as well, and it was steady throughout the day,” Martin said.

She hopes that this year's festival will draw even more attendees.

“We kind of feel like people are anxious to get out and do something, and this is nice because we have a very large campus,” Martin said. “Everything we do is outdoors, and we are maintaining social distancing and paying attention to all the do's and don'ts.

“We hope that it's going to be as well attended as our first one, if not better.”
