$12,000 blows off vehicle in transit

Jon Doctor sold his truck in order to buy a new vehicle for him, his wife and young daughter. But after an accident Thursday, the trade is going to be at least a day late and $12,000 short.

Nikki Doctor was busy loading her young daughter into the back seat of her car Thursday afternoon, and forgot to grab the $13,500 in cash that she placed on the car before pulling out of the driveway, said her husband, Jon Doctor. By the time she came back, she was only able to retrieve $1,500-worth of the scattered bills, the Fenelton couple told a district judge in Chicora.

But there is a clue to where the rest of the money went.

“A neighbor said they saw a black Ford F-150 pickup truck with three people in it, but the son said it was grey with one guy,” said Jon Doctor. “They said it stopped, turned its hazard lights on and someone got out and was scooping up something. They didn't think anything of it.”

Jon Doctor said he reported the loss Thursday to state police as well as the district judge, and that it could have been taken.

Doctor said he also went to local stores and banks to tell them to watch out for suspicious spending or deposits. He and his wife also made Facebook posts about the missing money, which said it was secured with two hair ties, offering an undisclosed reward for the return of the cash or information that could lead to its return.

Doctor said that money was going to be used to buy a new vehicle after selling his old truck.

“I saved up a long time and spent a lot of payments on my car, so it's just a real kick,” Doctor said.

Anyone with information can report it to state police, or the Doctors at 724-290-4133 or 724-602-5924.
