SR graduate Mineo fans 11 in Rock win
SLIPPERY ROCK — Slippery Rock High School graduate Rickeo Mineo struck out a career-high 11 and carried a perfect game into the sixth inning Sunday, leading Slippery Rock University to a 12-4 victory over West Virginia State at Critchfield Park.
The Rock split a twinbill with W.Va. State Saturday to open the 2020 season — winning the nightcap 8-5 after losing the opener, 9-5.
Mineo pitched six innings Sunday, allowing one hit and a walk. Christian Seelhorst struck out six in relief and Andy McClymonds added two more punch-outs in the contest.
The Rock’s 19 strikeouts as a pitching staff was its most in a single game in the past 17 years.
Offensively, SRU had 13 hits. Colin Cain had a homer, double and four RBI and Abraham Mow drilled a two-run homer, the 18th of his Rock career.
Alex Robenolt contributed a pair of home runs and two doubles. Jon Kozarian had three hits, Quentin Brown two hits and two runs scored.
SRU tallied 20 hits in Saturday’s twinbill. Kozarian and Connor Hamilton had four hits each, combining for six runs scored.
Luke Trueman was the winning pitcher in the second game, allowing two unearned runs in five innings.
SRU hosts Indiana (Pa.) in a non-conference twinbill Friday. Frostburg State comes to Critchfield Park for a doubleheader Sunday.
Both twinbills begin at 1 p.m.
