Jackson collision sends 2 to hospital

Tow truck drivers remove one of the two vehicles that collided along Evans City Road. The accident sent two people to the hospital Thursday afternoon.

JACKSON TWP — Two people were transported to the hospital, and part of Route 68 was closed for roughly an hour after a two-SUV collision Thursday afternoon.

Around 12:42 p.m. Thursday, a black Chevrolet Equinox, driven by a 41-year-old Evans City woman who was traveling west on Route 68 toward Zelienople, crossed the center line and collided with a silver Toyota 4-Runner, driven by a 63-year-old Butler woman that was heading east toward Evans City near 2227 Evans City Road, according to Jackson Township Police Sgt. Tim Ahlgren.

The black SUV veered right off the road, and the Toyota ended up on the side of the road.

Firefighters had to cut the driver’s side door off both vehicles, police said, as the drivers were trapped in the SUVs. Both drivers were alone in their respective vehicles.

The driver of the Equinox, who police said likely was at fault, did not seem intoxicated, police said. Police believe the Equinox driver had reached for something, causing her to become briefly distracted, at which time she crossed the center line.

Both drivers were transported to Allegheny General Hospital with injuries.

Route 68 was closed between Lindsay Road and Hartmann Road until 1:41 p.m.

Cranberry Township and Harmony EMS; Cranberry Township and Evans City fire departments; and Evans City-Seven Fields Regional, Jackson Township and Lancaster Township police departments assisted at the scene.
