Clinton fire's cause unknown

A charred plow truck and front loader are all that remain after a fire that broke out shortly before noon Sunday at a Clinton Township municipal garage on the 700 block of Saxonburg Boulevard.

The cause of a Clinton Township municipal garage fire Sunday remains unknown, according to authorities.

“We can't make a definitive determination due to the extensive damage caused by the fire,” said Trooper Mitchell Fetterman, who inspected the site this week.

Despite the lack of certainty, Fetterman said after reviewing video surveillance footage, police do not believe foul play was involved.

Township manager Tom Hartwig said he was notified by state police of their conclusions regarding the fire that destroyed half of the township's four-bay garage, multiple vehicles and many pieces of equipment and tools. No one was injured in the fire.“I have spent most of this week working with insurance adjusters,” Hartwig said.Hartwig said the township has visits scheduled with three insurance adjusters: one for tools and equipment, one for the vehicles and one for the garage itself. He said the insurance adjuster for the garage also will investigate and try to determine a cause.“He will be the key investigator to continue picking through the rubble,” Hartwig said.Being without its plow truck, Clinton Township already has received help from Middlesex and Winfield townships to keep roads clear. Cranberry Township also offered extra support if the need arises.“We are thankful,” Hartwig said. “From that standpoint, we never missed a beat.”
