Union girls rally past Karns City

Damsels make up 16-point deficit in win

Dominika Logue scored 15 points — including the decisive four in overtime — as the Union girls basketball team used a prodigious second-half comeback to topple Karns City on the road, 44-40, Friday night.

The Damsels trailed 25-9 at the half.

Haley Kriebel also scored 15 — 10 coming in a frantic third-quarter where Union outscored Karns City 19-5 to climb back into the game.

Emma Johns led all scorers with 19 for Karns City. Abby Callihan also pitched in 12 for the Gremlins.

Warren sank 15 of 17 free throws, Moniteau three of 11.

Levi Orton scored 23 points and also had 11 rebounds as A-C Valley rallied for a 55-48 win over Keystone.

Tanner Merwin and Eli Penny had strong defensive games for the Falcons. The duo held Keystone star Colin Say to two points in the second half and 10 total.

Chase Beighley and Eric Booher each pitched in 12 for Karns City (9-1).

Caden Rainey led Union with 16 points.

Domenic Vivirito (138 pounds) earned a pin in 52 seconds to highlight a combined six falls and major decisions by Butler in a 66-9 win over Mars.

Clayton Dressler (145), Steve Green (160) and Jake Pomykata (heavyweight) also earned pins for the Golden Tornado.

Levi Donnel (132) and Nate McMaster (152) had major decisions.

Bowling

Butler's girls clinched the WPIBL North section title and the boys clinched a playoff berth with 5-2 wins over Shaler at Perry Park Bowl.

Eric Devore led the Golden Tornado boys (6-1) with a 666 series and 248 game. Logan McClaine had a 619 series and 215 game, Brock Hepler a 597 series and 220 game.

Reegan Malis paced the Butler girls (7-0) with a 576 series and 202 game. Rachel Blose contributed a 559 series and 201 game.

Butler hosts North Allegheny Wednesday for Senior Night.

Freeport posted scores for the second time in its bye week. Mark Livingston led the Yellowjacket boys with a 666 series and games of 268 and 205. Tyler Williams had a 573 series and games of 229 and 204, Blake Olsen a 566 series and games of 212 and 204.

Julia Cummings paced the Freeport girls with a 6-5 series, including games of 225 and 215. Mackensie Livingston had a 214 game and Amber Cepec a 212.

Swimming

Slippery Rock's girls improved to 4-1 on the season as Gracie Olshanski, Alyssa Olshanski and Natalie Double each won two events in a 99-68 win over Titusville Thursday.

The Rocket boys dropped a 94-22 decision. Truett Patrick won the 100-meter breaststroke.
