COVID-19 Update 8/6: Butler County adds 12 confirmed cases

Butler County Commissioners kept COVID-19 in mind Thursday, the same day state officials called for expanding testing across the state.

According to a news release Thursday, the Butler County Board of Commissioners today approved the replacement of public restroom faucets to address sanitization concerns due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Commissioner Leslie Osche, board chairwoman, pointed out the expense is covered under the U.S. Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act.

“This is part of CARES Act funding to make the buildings safer,” said Osche in the release.

According to the Pennsylvania Department of Health's report Thursday, Butler County added 12 confirmed cases. Since the beginning of the pandemic, the county has a total of 585 confirmed cases and 15 deaths due to COVID-19.

Also Thursday at the state level, Gov. Tom Wolf and Secretary of Health Dr. Rachel Levine updated the public on testing expansion at a news conference.

“If we want to mitigate the spread of this very contagious virus, we must continue to understand how it's impacting Pennsylvania,” Wolf said. “Most importantly, improving access to testing helps Pennsylvanians who want and need to test for COVID-19.”

The following numbers on the coronavirus pandemic were compiled from regular news releases from the state Department of Health.
