County receives $100,000 grant

Butler County has been awarded a $100,000 grant from the Henry L. Hillman Foundation of Pittsburgh to help offset costs incurred due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The funding by the Butler County COVID Response and Recovery Efforts Grant will be disbursed under three categories:

$60,000 allotted to a revolving loan fund for small businesses through the Butler Economic Development Corporation

$30,000 for an employment/re-employment initiative to assist those in recovery or employment challenged with filling open positions in manufacturing and nonprofits

$10,000 for the Utility Assistance Fund through the United Way/Butler Emergency Relief Initiative.

Mark Gordon, county chief of economic development and planning, said the revolving loan fund will benefit local businesses.

“The money associated with the Hillman Foundation allocation toward small businesses will provide meaningful assistance to those businesses looking for supporting lines of credit,” Gordon said.

County Commissioner Leslie Osche, board chairwoman, thanked the Hillman Foundation for the grant funding.

“We’re very grateful to the Hillman Foundation for reaching out beyond Allegheny County and making a commitment to earmark the funds at this time,” Osche said.
