Road re-opens Tuesday afternoon, Monday evening wreck cleared

McCalmont Road in Butler Township is now open to traffic after crews worked most of Tuesday to remove the remnants of a Monday wreck that left a large truck lodged underneath a train trestle.

The road was closed overnight Monday after the large truck got stuck under a bridge that travels over the road and caused serious damage to the overhead bridge. A crane was brought in to remove the vehicle.

Officials from Canadian National Railway and United Road Trucking were during the day.

The accident occurred about 5:20 p.m. Monday when a large truck got stuck underneath a railroad trestle bridge on McCalmont Road near the Connoquenessing Creek, about halfway between Route 8 and Meridian Road.
