Fire destroys Clay Township home

CLAY TWP — Fire destroyed a home early Saturday morning, but the family that lived there escaped unharmed.

The home at 248 Claytonia Road was a total loss, according to West Sunbury Fire Chief Dan Bunyan. His department responded to the call at about 1 a.m. Saturday. By the time the scene was cleared at about 5 a.m., a number of other fire departments had been tapped to assist the fight.

Unionville Volunteer Fire Company, Prospect Volunteer Fire Department, Slippery Rock Volunteer Fire Company, Butler Township Volunteer Fire District, Chicora Volunteer Fire Department and North Washington Volunteer Fire Department all responded, Bunyan said.

Everyone was out of the home upon firefighters' arrival, Bunyan said. The residents included a husband and wife, along with their teenage children.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. The building is a single story ranch-style home with a basement.

This is an excerpt from a story that appears in Monday's Butler Eagle.
