County may replace gov't center elevators
County commissioners are gathering information on replacing the county government center's aging elevators, which have become a headache over the past few years.
The commissioners voted at their Wednesday meeting to pay $9,951 for the rebuilding of a motor on one of the elevators, which commissioners chairwoman Leslie Osche called “aggravating.”
The 20-year-old elevators have been giving the county director of facilities and operations, John Campbell, fits for a few years.
Campbell said the county has spent about $20,000 on various repairs on the elevators so far.
Osche said that with departments moving out of the courthouse and into the government center, the unreliable nature of the elevators has been frustrating.
She said commissioners are exploring the possibility of replacing the elevators in phases, but have just begun to collect data to determine the feasibility of the project.
