Transit authority OKs buying riding mower

Butler Transit Authority approved the purchase of a new riding mower at Tuesday’s meeting.

The board of directors approved the purchase of a Ferris IS 600 that comes at a cost of $5,499. The zero- turn mower has a warranty through four years or 500 hours, whichever comes first.

The mower would replace the authority’s current riding mower, a 2011 Cub Cadet LTX1050.

The 2011 mower has exceeded 580 hours of use, according to Karl Knechtel, the authority’s facility manager.

“It is my recommendation that no more money be spent on this older machine and a new one is purchased,” Knechtel said.

Knechtel said the new mower will be a notable upgrade.

“It will still do our larger areas but will make it much easier to go around things,” he said. “It’s also completely built in the USA in Munnsville, N.Y.”
