Students achieve distinction

Butler High School will honor students who have achieved a 4.2 or higher grade-point average as honor students with distinction during its Thursday commencement ceremony at Art Bernardi Stadium. Honor students with distinction are:

Samantha Barr, Alyssa Bellis, Zachary Callithen, Abigail Cavanaugh, Victoria Christy, Gina Denny, Aden Dressler, Eliza Drohan, Nathan Ellis, Katherine Faulk, Maggie Feczko, Maddelyn Ferguson, Logan Francis, Madalyn Fry, Julia Gibson, Faith Hansotte, Alyssa Hilliard, Faith Kaltenbach, Anna Kaufman, Michelle Kenyon, Jenna Kriley, Sophia Lex, Megan McClymonds, Chad Meier, Oliviah Montag, Braden Pate, Kyle Pfabe, Stephanie Pogue, Mackenzi Popovich, Noah Proctor, Raeanne Rumbaugh, Autumn Shay, Elizabeth Simms, Lindsey Uranker and Christopher Zidek.

n Samantha is the daughter of William and Kristine Barr of Butler. She was a member of the all-school musical, Spanish and Feminist clubs and Chain Reaction Contraption. She won a National Honor Society service letter. She plans to attend the University of Pittsburgh and major in pre-med biology.

n Alyssa is the daughter of Joseph and Linda Bellis of Butler. She was a member of the varsity cheerleading squad and Spanish and Best Buddies and Random Acts of Kindness clubs. She won National Honor Society service and Butler varsity letters. She plans to attend Duquesne University as a pharmacy major.

n Zachary is the son of Holly and Harry Callithen of Butler. He is a member of the varsity swim team, student council and Butler Tornado TV and is class vice president. He won a National Honor Society service letter and a four-year varsity swimming letter. He plans to attend Seton Hall University and major in the physician’s assistant program.

n Abigail is the daughter of Leonard and Lori Cavanaugh of Renfrew. She was a member of the Musical Theater Association, Pennsylvania Music Education Honors, district, region and all-state choirs. She won a National Honor Society service letter and was named a Young Musician of Note. She plans to attend Slippery Rock University and major in homeland security.

n Victoria is the daughter of Ann Christy and the late Tyrone Christy of Butler. She was a member of the musical stage crew and the prom committee. She won a National Honor Society service letter. She plans to attend the University of Pittsburgh majoring in applied mathematics.

n Gina is the daughter of Erin and Raymond Denny Jr. of Fenelton. She is a member of Butler High Theatre, Butler High choir and the Pennsylvania Music Education Association district and honors choirs. She won a National Honor Society service letter. She plans to attend the University of Pittsburgh and major in mechanical engineering.

n Aden is the son of Rebecca and Michael Dressler of Evans City. He is a member of the Butler cross country and track teams. He won the Dennis Coyle Memorial Dedication Award, a varsity letter, boys most valuable performer (cross country) and academic award (cross country.) He plans to attend Washington & Jefferson College to pursue a major in Spanish interpretation/translator.

n Eliza is the daughter of Matthew and Samantha Drohan of Butler. She was captain of the varsity lacrosse team, class treasurer and member of student council and Best Buddies. She won a National Honor Society service letter, made state mock trial qualifiers, holds the Butler varsity girls lacrosse scoring record, and was named all-section athlete in lacrosse. She plans to major in business at the University of Pittsburgh.

n Nathan is the son of Monica and Brian Ellis of Butler. He is a member of the varsity swim and volleyball teams. He won a National Honor Society service letter and varsity letters in swimming and volleyball. He plans to attend the University of Alabama as a business/finance major.

n Katherine is the daughter of Rachel and Gregory Faulk of Butler. She is a member of the Butler varsity girls soccer team. She won a National Honor Society service letter and lettered three times in varsity soccer. She plans to be a nursing major at the University of Pittsburgh.

n Maggie is the daughter of Al and Stacy Feczko of Butler. She was co-captain of the Sequinette dance team and the Butler varsity girls golf team, secretary of the Gertrude Reed National Honor Society chapter, a pianist in the pit orchestra and a member of the all-school musical cast. She’s a four-year girls varsity golf letter winner, and she received a PHEAA Certificate of Merit for Outstanding SAT performance and the Shelly Portman Memorial Award. She plans to attend the University of Notre Dame and major in finance.

n Maddelyn is the daughter of Matt and Beth Ferguson of Butler. She plans to attend Grove City College as a political science major.

n Logan is the daughter of Steven and Lisa Francis of Butler. She was on Spanish Club Council and the varsity cheerleading and varsity competition cheerleading teams. She won a National Honor Society service letter. She plans to attend Butler County Community College as a nursing major.

n Madalyn is the daughter of Mark and Alison Fry of Butler. She was a member of Spanish Club, Chain Reaction Contraption and the track and field team. She won a National Honor Society service letter and a letter in varsity track and field. She plans to attend Grove City College and pursue a biology major.

n Julia is the daughter of Michael and Candace Gibson of Butler. She was a member of the basketball, softball and volleyball teams, Best Buddies and the Environmental Club. She won a National Honor Society service letter, letters in varsity basketball and volleyball, the Tri-Athlete Award and the varsity basketball leadership award. She plans to pursue a premedical biology major at Duquesne University.

n Faith is the daughter of Judith and Kevin Hansotte of Butler. She was a member of the varsity volleyball team, Goodwill Ambassadors, Environmental Club, Random Acts of Kindness and the Spanish Club. She won National Honor Society service and varsity volleyball letters and was named a high honors athlete. She plans to major in chemical engineering and Spanish at Penn State University.

n Alyssa is the daughter of Kathleen and Edward Hilliard of Butler. She is a member of the marching band, the jazz band, pit orchestra, and PMEA honors, district and region bands. She won a PMEA region band medal, a PMEA jazz band medal, a Director’s Award, PHEAA Certificate of Merit, an Academic Excellence Award and was named a Young Musician of Note. She plans to major in mathematics at Slippery Rock University.

n Faith is the daughter of Michael and Bradene Kaltenbach of Butler. She is a member of the Best Buddies and Unified Bocce Ball. She won a National Honor Society service letter. She plans to attend Slippery Rock University as an occupational therapy major.

n Anna is the daughter of Doug and Carrie Kaufman of Butler. She is a member of the Butler Tornado Big Band, marching band and PMEA honors, district, region and jazz bands. She lettered for being marching band drum major, was named Butler Symphony Musician of Note, and medaled in PMEA honors, district, region and jazz bands. She plans to major in music education at Slippery Rock University.

n Michelle is the daughter of Douglas and Renee Kenyon of Butler. She is a member of the Philosophy Club, all-school musical, Butler Orchestra, Butler Chamber Orchestra, Butler choir and the Butler Area Junior Classical League. She was named a Butler Symphony Young Musician of Note and the recipient of a Blackwood Arts Foundation grant. She plans to pursue a violin performance and music education major at Duquesne University.

n Jenna is the daughter of Kim and Davie Kriley of Butler. She is a member of the Feminist Club and Random Acts of Kindness and is class secretary and chief editor of the district literary magazine. She won a National Honor Society service letter and won the Challenge Program Volunteer Award. She plans to attend Slippery Rock University as a biology major specializing in premedicine.

n Sophia is the daughter of Jonathan and Trudy Lex of Butler. She was student body president and a member of mock trial, student council, Bots IQ, Best Buddies and Environmental Club. She won a National Honor Society service letter, was named an AP scholar with distinction, won first place from the Pennsylvania Academy of Science and state championship mock trial team. She plans to attend the University of Pittsburgh as a civil and environmental engineering major.

n Megan is the daughter of Mark and Susan McClymonds of Butler. She is a member of the soccer and track and field teams, Spanish Club and Best Buddies and Random Acts of Kindness. She won a National Honor Society service letter, a varsity letter, a Goal Getters Pride Award and a Varsity Soccer Academic Award. She plans to major in actuarial science at Robert Morris University.

n Chad is the son of Peter and Vonna Meier of Fenelton. He is a member of Bots IQ, Chain Reaction Contraption, Pennsylvania Math League and Academic Games. He was named Vo-Tech Student of the Month. He plans to attend the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, majoring in mechanical engineering.

n Oliviah is the daughter of Sherry and Michael Montag of Butler. She was a member of the Butler rock orchestra. She was named a Young Musician of Note. She plans to attend Butler County Community College as a business administration and accounting major.

n Braden is the son of Jayne Pate of Butler and Ron Pate of Slippery Rock. He is a member of the boys’ volleyball and Duquesne University Academic Challenge teams. He is vice president of the National Honor Society and won the AP Scholar and Mock Trial Best Witness awards. He plans to major in fish, wildlife and conservation biology at Colorado State University.

n Kyle is the son of Mylle and Angie Pfabe of Chicora. He is a member of student council and Best Buddies. He won a National Honor Society service letter.

n Stephanie is the daughter of George and Denise Pogue of Butler. She is a member of the high school orchestra and Spanish and Environmental clubs. She won a National Honor Society service letter. She plans to attend Slippery Rock University as a health care administration and management pre-physical therapy major.

n Mackenzi is the daughter of Christopher and Cybil Popovich of Butler. She is a member of the track and field team, Random Acts of Kindness and Spanish, Environmental and Feminist clubs. She won a National Honor Society service letter, a four-year varsity letter and a state Certificate of Merit. She plans to attend Kent State University as a managerial marketing manager.

n Noah is the son of April and Jess Hempel of East Butler. He is a member of Bots IQ and Chain Reaction Contraption and Hometown High Q, Duquesne University Academic Challenge and Indiana University Academic Challenge teams. He plans to attend California University of Pennsylvania as an electrical engineering major.

n Raeanne is the daughter of Mitchell and Kolleen Rumbaugh of Butler. She was a member of the marching band, all-school musical and Butler Area Classical League. She won a National Honor Society service letter. She plans to major in pharmacy at the University of Pittsburgh.

n Autumn is the daughter of Gary and Amy Shay of East Butler. She is a member of Spanish Club and Random Acts of Kindness. She won a National Honor Society service letter. She plans to attend Grove City College as a mechanical engineering major.

n Elizabeth is the daughter of Mary and Paul Simms of Butler. She is a member of the track and field team, student council, Best Buddies and Extreme Leadership. She won a National Honor Society service letter, was named Leukemia and Lymphoma Society Student of the Year and WPIAL Scholar Athlete, was a Mock Trial state qualifier and won the Rotary Youth Leadership, AP Scholar and Tri-Athlete awards. She plans to major in biomedical engineering pre-med at Davidson College.

n Lindsey is the daughter of Raymond and Joyce Uranker of Butler. She is a member of Spanish Club. She won a National Honor Society service letter. She plans to attend Michigan State University, majoring in marketing.

n Christopher is the son of Mike and Lynn Zidek of Butler. He is a member of mock trial, varsity tennis team and Environmental Club, and was co-president of the BTTV/Video Club. He won a National Honor Society service letter and was a WPIAL section doubles qualifier in tennis. He plans to attend Loyola Marymount University as a film and television production major.

Class officers are Sophia Lex, president; Zachary Callithen, vice president; Jenna Kriley, secretary; and Eliza Drohan, treasurer.
