Township seniors get together for meals, events, socializing

CRANBERRY TWP — The Cranberry 55-plus Club recently celebrated 48 years of operation in the township.

Members met April 9 for a luncheon celebrating the anniversary and to hear about the latest events and offerings the group had planned.

The Cranberry 55-plus Club is a social group for township residents 55 years old and older.

Bill Shaner, club president, spoke about the importance of the club in bringing residents together through activities and regular meetings. Shaner said the club works to offer regular meetings, meals and events.

“We go out to lunch once a month to different restaurants,” Shaner said. “People love it.”

The club also goes to various musical events and area school concerts and productions. Offerings vary from month to month.

Club member Joan Bergman said she's been with the Cranberry 55-plus Club for about eight years and appreciates the chance to socialize with others in the community.

“We have meetings and entertainment, picnics in the summer, a meal once a month,” she said. “(It's) a chance for seniors to get out and meet people, to be with people your own age.”

Shaner said the club has been growing in both engagement and interest, with new events and features being added.

Those interested in more information or connecting with the group may call Shaner at 724-776-1933.

The club meets at 1 p.m. the second Tuesday of the month in the municipal center, although it will not be meeting in May. The next meeting is scheduled for June 11.
