'Dreamcoat' production is amazing in best way

Sign Hosanna! put the AMAZING in Andrew Lloyd Webber's “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” during a limited viewing Tuesday.

Sing Hosanna! newcomer Alexandra Patterson hit the stage and made a statement in a big way. Her grand vocals set the tone for what would be one of the best Sing Hosanna! productions in recent history.

Patterson plays the Narrator throughout the production and moved it along all the while interacting with the characters and hitting the high notes with ease.

The opening ensemble number, “Jacob and Sons/Joseph's Coat” was a foretaste of what was to come, and the momentum never stopped.

The large cast seemed well-blocked and well-heeled as the choreography was delightful.

The subsequent numbers with the bevy of brothers were energetic and fun, but none more so than the “One More Angel,” full of boots and a honky tonk vibe as the brothers shared the demise of their departed sibling.

Tyler Pollock was a pleasant surprise cast as Joseph. He offered up some clear rich vocals and confidently rocked the role of the cast-out brother turned number two in Egypt.

His “Close Every Door” was a well performed lament to the hopelessness and despair he experienced in prison.

That was answered by “Go, Go, Go Joseph” that pumped up our sad-hearted hero and gives him purpose.

The sultry “Potiphar” number featured the skillful Matt Nocera and Andrea Shaffer as they teamed up to send Joseph to prison. The scene was crafted well with a high-end Chicago-style vibe.

Act II was about redemption and featured Michael Traverso as Pharaoh with an Elvis theme. Bold and daring was Traverso.

In the band of brothers lament “Those Canaan Days” featuring chairs and berets, the boys twirled and trod and pondered their past. It led them to take their next step to Egypt.

The “Benjamin Calypso” led by Andrew Stock was a raucous romp defending brother Ben from being accused as a thief. Stock's comedic style and vocals makes the toe-tappin' tune an audience favorite.

The simple and yet very cleverly crafted sets allowed the talent to shine on stage.

Supported by a talented cast and a fabulous band of musicians, Sing Hosanna! brought the lyrics of Tim Rice and Webber's stellar score to life in an amazing way.
