NEW YORK — No artist has more No. 1 hits on the Billboard Hot 100 chart than Mariah Carey, so it’s only fitting that the singer will receive the Icon Award at the 2019 Billboard Music Awards.
NBC and Dick Clark Productions announced Thursday that the Grammy-winning superstar will also perform at the May 1 event in Las Vegas.
Carey has 18 No. 1 hits, including “Vision of Love,” “Hero,” “Honey” and “We Belong Together.”
Her duet with Boyz II Men, “One Sweet Day,” spent 16 weeks at No. 1, making it the longest-running No. 1 hit on the Hot 100 chart. Luis Fonsi’s “Despacito” tied the feat in 2017.
Kelly Clarkson will host the Billboard Awards, and Panic at the Disco, Sam Smith and Normani will perform. Cardi B is the leader with 21 nominations.

LOS ANGELES — Costumes, props and tour items from the Disney Channel’s “Hannah Montana” TV series are going up for auction.
The teen sitcom featured Miley Cyrus, who portrayed schoolgirl Miley Stewart by day and international pop star Hannah Montana by night. It helped launched Cyrus’ career and the franchise included albums, films and concerts.
Highlights of the auction include items from Cyrus’ Best of Both Worlds tour such as a black satin jacket, pink tank top and customized high-top sneakers. There are numerous costumes that she wore on the show, which ran from 2006 to 2011.
Julien’s Auctions announced Thursday all proceeds will benefit the Wilder Minds charity, which aids the world’s at-risk animals.
The auction will take place online and at New York’s Hard Rock Cafe on May 18.

LONDON — Prince Harry and his pregnant wife Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, say they have decided to keep plans around their first baby’s arrival private.
Kensington Palace officials said in a statement that Harry and Meghan “look forward” to sharing the news of their baby’s birth once they have had a chance to celebrate privately as a new family.
The decision means that Harry and Meghan are not likely to pose for the world’s photographers and TV crews on the hospital steps with their newborn, a break from the royal tradition followed by Prince William and his wife Kate, the duchess of Cambridge, when she gave birth to their three children.
As a future king, William is expected to help mark great occasions, while Harry — sixth in the line of succession — has more leeway. Both have in the past expressed deep misgivings about intrusive press coverage.
Harry and Meghan — an American actress best known for her work on “Suits” — wed in May in a ceremony at Windsor Castle.
They are expecting their first child in late April or early May. The palace has announced very few details about their plans, refusing to comment on unconfirmed British press reports that Meghan may opt for a home birth. Harry and Meghan say they have not learned the gender of their baby.
The couple recently moved from central London to a more secluded house near their wedding venue.
