Brian Ellis resigns as state representative
Brian Ellis resigned from his position of state representative Monday evening.
His attorney, Erik Anderson, sent a statement on behalf of Ellis, who is from Butler Township. Anderson declined to offer any further comment.
“It has been a truly remarkable experience and honor to serve my hometown,” the statement read. “I, along with the unyielding help and support of my family and staff, hope that we have been able to effectively serve all of you and help many of you. Butler will always remain my home, and I look forward to returning home.”
Harrisburg media reported in January that Ellis is under investigation by the Dauphin County District Attorney’s Office for a sexual assault in 2015. Ellis has previously offered little comment in response, and he has not cast a vote or been available in any of his offices since the initial reports.
The resignation is effective immediately, according to Anderson.
Ellis took office in 2004.
