Drug raid yields cash, pot, guns

Task force was watching house

NEW SEWICKLEY TWP, Beaver Co. — A drug bust in Beaver County yielded more than $100,000, nine pounds of marijuana and two firearms in the possession of a felon.

On Saturday, officers of the Beaver County District Attorney's Drug Task Force were surveilling the home of John Abmayer III, 26, a suspected drug dealer in New Sewickley Township, documents state.

A vehicle left the residence, and officers made a traffic stop.

Police reported finding the driver in possession of marijuana. The driver admitted to buying the drugs from Abmayer at the residence under surveillance, police said.

Officers also arranged for a confidential informant to make a controlled buy of marijuana from Abmayer at the residence that day, documents state. The informant called to set up the sale and bought the drugs at the residence.

Based on this and other evidence collected during the investigation, police obtained a search warrant for the residence and on Tuesday morning carried it out.

Police entered the residence at 6:05 a.m., finding Abmayer with nine pounds of marijuana, 519 THC cartridges for e-cigarettes, $121,419, drug paraphernalia, a 9 mm semi-automatic handgun and a 12 gauge shotgun, documents state.

Police said Abmayer is a felon and prohibited from possessing firearms.

When interviewed by officers, documents state, Abmayer admitted to owning the items found in the search and to selling drugs from his residence.

Abmayer is charged with drug possession with intent to deliver, possession of firearms and possession of a controlled substance.

He was placed in the Beaver County Prison on a bond of $500,000. A preliminary hearing is set for Feb. 28.
