Judge candidate has practiced law for 30 years

Matt Fischer
He's 5th attorney to enter race

Another Butler attorney has thrown his hat into the ring for a seat on the bench in the Butler County Court of Common Pleas.

Matt Fischer announced his candidacy this week for the position vacated in October by Judge Marilyn Horan, who was appointed to federal court in Pittsburgh.

Fischer has practiced law for three decades. He has appeared before more than 110 judges in Pennsylvania and participated in more than 4,000 trials and other legal proceedings. He opened his office in Butler in 1998.

“I'll bring experience, integrity and values to the Butler County court,” Fischer said. “The next judge is slated to be assigned to family court, where I have 30 years' experience and a reputation for honesty and candor.”

Fischer described himself as a strong supporter of the Second Amendment right to bear arms and having conservative values.

Fischer and his wife, the former Marcia Paraska, are the parents of Zachary, a senior at Grove City College, and Zoe, who attends eighth grade in the Butler School District.

Fischer has pledged fairness and efficiency as a judge in family court.

“I pledge that when I'm on the bench, people will have a judge who is going to listen to them, be open minded, treat them with respect and make decisions that are fair and supported by the law,” Fischer said. “They'll get a fair hearing and a timely decision, without the delays and rescheduling that have become the norm.”

Attorneys who have announced their candidacy for judge are William “Wink” Robinson, Tom Breth, Nicole Thurner and Jennifer Gilliland Vanasdale.
