Mars takes 1st place in opening quiz round

MARS — Mars High School’s Hometown High Q Team earned first place in the initial round of the annual quiz show.

The team of senior Jack Ramsey, junior Adrian Zugehar and freshman Christopher Dvorak defeated teams from Blackhawk and Greater Latrobe high schools. The show was recorded on Oct. 20.

The Hometown High Q high school quiz show, sponsored by Williams and KDKA-TV, airs Saturdays on KDKA. The program offers students the opportunity to compete for academic grants and recognition by answering questions from a variety of curriculum areas.

JACKSON TWP — Two Seneca Valley students, senior Mariah (Storm) Harvin and junior Grace Hilling, were selected by the Andy Warhol Museum to participate in the Youth Arts Council Program for the 2018-19 school year.

Youth Arts Council is a yearlong leadership program that invites a small team of high school students from across Pittsburgh to go behind the scenes, collaborate with museum staff and artists, create art, and develop public programs and events for other teens. Youth Arts Council participants receive stipends, gain professional experience working in a museum, and learn new skills and techniques.

SLIPPERY ROCK— Hannah R. Lindey of Slippery Rock, who is majoring in wellness management, was awarded a Deans’ Scholarship and Destination Oswego Scholarship from State University of New York Oswego. The award recognizes past academic achievement and potential for success.

SUNY Oswego honored more than 850 incoming students with merit scholarships. Outstanding first-year students are offered Presidential Scholarships, Deans’ Scholarships, Merit Awards and, for outstanding students from outside New York state, Destination Oswego scholarships.
