No device is found at Mars after threat

ADAMS TWP — Nothing was found after a bomb threat led to the evacuation of Mars High School on Tuesday. According to a letter from Superintendent Wesley Shipley to parents on Tuesday, officials were alerted to a threat and contacted Adams Township police. Shipley said a note was found on the floor of a school hallway with an unspecified threat.

Students from the high school were evacuated and taken to the elementary school, the letter states. Adams Township police performed a sweep of the high school with bomb-sniffing dogs. No device was found, and police cleared the scene and deemed the building safe.

“Everything went smoothly,” Shipley said.

Students returned to the building at 1:45 p.m. Tuesday and were dismissed as usual, according to Shipley’s letter. Evening activities were to proceed as scheduled, the letter states.

“I would like to thank Adams Township Police, Allegheny County sheriff’s office and Pittsburgh police for their assistance,” Shipley said. “Also, thanks to our administrative team, teachers and staff for ensuring our students were safe throughout. ... Safety and security are paramount.”

Calls to Adams Township police were not immediately returned Tuesday.
