BC3's Lunch & Learn series spotlights workforce development

Butler County Community College is launching a series of workshops in downtown Butler meant to showcase the school’s Workforce Development division.

The BC3 Lunch & Learn series will be held:

Oct. 24 at the Butler YMCA;

Nov. 16 at Butler Public Library;

Feb. 6 at ConnectWork:

April 17 at The Grand Ballroom;

May 22 at the Springhill Suites by Marriott hotel; and

June 12 at The Chop Shop. All of the events start at 11:30 a.m., last 90 minutes and include a light lunch and presentations on varying topics.

The YMCA event will feature a presentation by Maria Chvala, BC3 coordinator of industrial safety training, titled “Office Safety — Slips, Trips and Falls.”

The series represents the first open programming in the city by the division, which is part of BC3’s strategic plan.

“The concept excites us because we are getting into a new area and providing a different opportunity for people who work or live in the downtown area,” said Kelly McKissick, BC3’s coordinator of professional education and certificate programs.

Other topics that will be addressed by the series include creativity and outside-the-box creative thinking, grief in the workplace, goal-setting, hands-only CPR, and active listening.

The series received praise from Councilman Kenny Bonus, who called the programs a sign that BC3 is “leading the charge” when it comes to investing in downtown and fostering economic development.

“One organization alone can’t do it,” Bonus said. “Whenever you have a facilitator like BC3 working on fostering these genuine relationships, that is when you start to see real results.”

The series is the first downtown events to be scheduled by the college since BC3 moved its coordinator of community leadership initiatives office to South Main Street in August, which established the college’s first presence in the city.
