Great Farm Tour
Kudos to Butler for presenting the Butler County Farm Tour on Sept. 15. A free event, working farms were open for the public to see dairy cows being milked, beef cattle grazing and chickens and turkeys feeding. Children climbed on tractors, took hayrides and were able to pet and lead alpacas.
This event allows Butler family farms to showcase their work, educating children about who produces the foodstuffs of their breakfast, lunch and dinner. Originally developed by the Penn State Extension office, the Farm Tour is now managed by the Butler County Tourism and Convention Bureau. It attracts visitors from all of Western Pennsylvania.
Agriculture is Pennsylvania's dominant industry and this year Butler County's Farm Bureau led all of Pennsylvania's county chapters in meeting membership goals.
