Pipeline involved in blast originates in Butler County
The pipeline that exploded in Beaver County's Center Township yesterday originates in Butler County, officials report.
Center Township Police Chief Barry Kramer said in a press conference that the pipeline begins in “northern Butler County” and leads to Bulger, Washington County.
In a written statement issued by the pipeline's owner, the Dallas-based Energy Transfer Partners, the company identified the pipeline as a 24-inch methane gas gathering line, called the Revolution Pipeline.
The statement points to a landslide in the area near the time of the explosion, which occurred at about 5 a.m. No one was injured, and the fire was extinguished by 7 a.m.
As for a cause, the company indicates weather events may be to blame: “An Initial site assessment reveals evidence of a landslide in the vicinity of the pipeline.” Heavy rains also were pointed to as a cause.
Energy Transfer Partners partners with EdgeMarc Energy in Western Pennsylvania. EdgeMarc has facilities in Butler County, and the pair have partnered in transporting cryogenic gas in the region.
