Spending fake money at Walmart ends in arrest

Scott Brandon Lowe, 44, of Colfax, La., faces charges of forgery, possessing instruments of crime, theft and possession of both a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia.

A Louisiana man successfully used counterfeit money Friday night at the Walmart off New Castle Road, but Butler Township Police arrested him after he tried again the following morning, according to police.

Scott Brandon Lowe, 44, of Colfax, La., faces charges of forgery, possessing instruments of crime, theft and possession of both a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia.

At about 8:30 a.m. Saturday, a Walmart employee noticed Lowe's fake cash and denied it, according to a police report.

He fled the store to his hotel room at the nearby Hampton Inn and was found with more of the phony money and the equipment used to create it, police report.

He had “several hundred dollars” worth of counterfeit money, according to Ltd. Matthew Pearson. Pearson described the fakes as “above average quality,” but still noticeably fake.

Lowe is being held in the Butler County Prison on a $250,000 bond.
