Police say man struck girlfriend with vehicle i

Daryl Myers

FAIRVIEW — State police arrested a borough man on charges he struck his girlfriend with a vehicle early Sunday morning during a family gathering.

Daryl Lee Myers, 30, is accused of felony assault and other charges in the incident at his home on South Fairview Main Street.

Police and emergency crews were dispatched about 1:45 a.m. after a 911 call reported that a man believed to be intoxicated ran over a woman, authorities said.

Trooper Robert Gambone spoke to the woman, who recounted that Myers, her boyfriend, had driven through the backyard of his home several times before he struck her, according to court documents.

The woman, who police did not identify, was thrown to the ground and suffered unknown injuries

She refused hospital treatment, said Chuck Barnes, chief of the Petrolia Volunteer Fire Department. He said it appeared the vehicle's side mirror struck her.

Police said that several other family members were also in the yard at the time and Myers nearly hit them with the vehicle.

The suspect drove away but he was found a short time later, police said.

Gambone noted that he did not ask Myers any questions. The defendant, however, offered an unsolicited statement: “I didn't mean to run her over,” according to the trooper's affidavit.

District Judge Wayne Seibel arraigned Myers on charges of aggravated assault, simple assault and reckless endangerment. He is free on $5,000 bail.
