Sox win it in 12
SPRINGFIELD, Ohio — Dominick Bucko drove in the go-ahead run in the top of the 12th inning and Butler outlasted Champion City, 4-2, in Game 1 of a doubleheader Wednesday night.
Game 2 didn’t start until nearly 10 p.m.
Bucko, a Knoch graduate, had two more hits to raise his average to .449.
Butler scored first in the top of the second inning, but Champion City responded with a run in the bottom of the frame.
The same situation happened in the seventh as Butler went ahead 2-1 as Bucko scored on a wild pitch.
But the Kings answered with a run of their own in the bottom of the seventh to send the game to extra innings.
In the Prospect League, games of a doubleheader are only seven innings.
Butler graduate Wyatt Daugherty, Sean Kealey, Anthony Rini and Jace Warkentien combined to throw 5 1/3 scoreless innings out of the bullpen for the BlueSox.
Rini picked up the win with one scoreless inning. Warkentien worked a scoreless 12th for his second save in as many nights.
Butler returns home Thursday to face Chillicothe at Kelly Automotive Park.
