LAS VEGAS — A month after speaking at the March for Our Lives in his hometown of Austin, Texas, Matthew McConaughey says he supports some gun control but fears the youth-led movement could be “hijacked” by those hoping to eliminate all guns in the United States.

McConaughey spoke about his support for the marchers in Las Vegas on Monday, where he was promoting his upcoming film, “White Boy Rick,” at the CinemaCon theater-owners convention.

He called gun violence “an epidemic in our country.” But he says there are responsible gun owners and some want to ban all guns, and he worries the March for Our Lives will be overtaken by that faction.

He says he hopes there's room for agreement between anti-gun activists and the National Rifle Association.

LAS VEGAS — Las Vegas Strip headliner David Copperfield is due to return to the witness stand in a lawsuit by a British tourist who claims he was seriously hurt in a fall while taking part in one of Copperfield's signature illusions in 2013.

The magician resumes testimony Tuesday after last week revealing secrets behind a trick that appears to make volunteer audience members vanish onstage and appear a few moments later in the back of the theater.

Plaintiff Gavin Cox of Kent, England, alleges he fell after being hurried by stagehands through an MGM Grand hotel alleyway coated with a powdery residue near a trailer-sized trash bin.

LAS VEGAS — Claire Foy says the controversy over her pay for the Netflix series “The Crown” has changed her approach to Hollywood.

Foy says it opened her eyes about what she's “allowed to have an opinion about.”

A producer disclosed last month that Foy, who starred as Britain's Queen Elizabeth II, was paid less than Matt Smith, who played Prince Philip, because Smith was better known.

Foy was in Las Vegas promoting “The Girl in the Spider's Web,” which completed filming this month. It's based on the fourth book in Stieg Larsson's popular Millennium series revolving around hacker Lisbeth Salander, previously played in movies by Noomi Rapace and Rooney Mara.

WICHITA, Kan. — Kansas is rolling out the welcome mat after “Star Wars” actor Mark Hamill tweeted about wanting to visit.

Gov. Jeff Colyer suggested Monday in a tweet that Hamill come on May 4, which fans call Star Wars Day for the wordplay on “May the Force be with you.”

Kansas Highway Patrol Trooper Ben Gardner responded with “I only let Jedi Warriors drive my patrol car.” The state touted its roads in a tweet that included a video clip of Batman's archenemy, the Joker, whom Hamill has voiced.

The love fest began after Hamill was asked in Twitter where he'd never been but wanted to go. He responded with the one-word answer of “Kansas.” One fan photo edited the Cowardly Lion, Tin Man, Scarecrow and Dorothy into the Millennium Falcon's cockpit.
