Young enters second plea in Patti Cake child molestation case

A Butler man accused of molesting three young girls at the Patti Cake Child Care Center entered a second no contest plea in Butler County Court Monday, after the first was rejected in November.

Roger L. Young, 69, pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor count of corruption of minors before Judge William Shaffer Monday.

The plea agreement calls for a sentence of 60 months in the county Intermediate Punishment Program, with the first 60 days on house arrest with electronic monitoring, as well as fines, court costs and restitution.

The agreement also states that if there are no major violations of the program, Young may petition for termination of supervision after 30 months.

He is scheduled for sentencing April 12.

Shaffer rejected Young’s initial plea in November, after Young requested a continuance of a sentencing hearing.

The reason for the continuance — as stated on the application delivered by Young’s attorney, Michael Zunder — was that the “defendant has a number of things to take care of prior to year’s end and some family milestones to attend before year’s end and would be difficult if not impossible to accomplish while on HA (house arrest).”

According to the previous agreement, sentencing called for 12 months probation, with the first 60 days spent on house arrest with electronic monitoring and a fine.
