Woman sentenced for assaulting police officers

Asia Basham

A Butler woman was placed into the county Accelerated Rehabilitative Disposition program on Tuesday, after being charged with assaulting police officers in January 2017.

Asia E. Basham, 20, was placed into the program for 12 months on the charge of misdemeanor driving under the influence by President Judge Thomas Doerr.

She was also ordered to pay court costs, complete drug and alcohol evaluations and assessments, attend an Alcohol Highway Safety School, complete the county litter pickup program and attend a Victim Impact Panel.

Basham was initially charged with felony aggravated assault, misdemeanor resisting arrest, DUI and summary underage drinking after a one-vehicle wreck in the 100 block of Morton Avenue on Jan. 8, 2017.

Butler City police filed the charges after finding Basham in the driver's seat of the crashed car, smelling of alcohol and appearing to be intoxicated.

She was arrested and kicked a patrolman as he placed her in the patrol car, police said.

Basham was taken to the police station where she managed to slip her handcuffs. Moments later, police said, she punched another officer, police said.

Outside the prison, she then kicked an officer again as he removed her from the patrol car, police said.
