Butler man killed in head-on wreck

A Butler County man driving the wrong way was killed Thursday night in a head-on crash on Route 422, authorities said.

Eli B. Houston, 32 of Summit Township was pronounced dead at the scene of the two-vehicle wreck near the Lawrence-Butler County line. He was not wearing a seat belt.

State police said Houston was driving east in the westbound lane and approaching the intersection with Copper Road about 9 p.m. when he struck a vehicle traveling west that was driven by Amy E. Buckley, 50, of New Castle.

Buckley and her passenger, Megan E. Linger, 22, who shares the same address, both suffered injuries that police described as “moderate.” Both were wearing seat belts.

One of the women was taken to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital in Ohio and the other was taken to Jameson Hospital in New Castle, according to emergency crews.

The women were listed in stable condition several hours after the crash, police said.

The road was closed for more than three hours. It reopened about 12:30 a.m.

Volunteer fire departments from Slippery Rock, Shenanago and Scott townships, all in Lawrence County, were called to the scene.

Also assisting was Noga Ambulance in Lawrence County and Portersville EMS in Butler County.
