Almost perfect once more

So close.

The Ol’ Scoopster nearly went undefeated again last week, boys and girls, dropping just one game.

I’m still pretty giddy, though. An 11-1 record is not too shabby.

And neither is my 70-17 overall record.

My recent hot streak has me thinking 100 wins again.

That’s right, Scoop is in playoff form, as are several Butler County area football teams as we head into the home stretch of the season.

On to the picks:

Pine-Richland 46, Butler 10 — The Golden Tornado are coming off a tough loss to Norwin.

The Rams have one of the most dynamic offenses in the state.

Butler has been gritty, but the Tornado will have their hands full.

Seneca Valley 42, Shaler 8 — The Raiders should get back on track against the struggling Titans, who have dropped 57 of their last 59 games.

Knoch 32, Ambridge 9 — Same goes for the Knights, who should kick their option offense into high gear again this week.

Mars 42, Indiana 15 — The Planets found their groove again last week and that should carry over into this week.

Like myself, Mars coach Scott Heinauer is flying high with a possible 180th win.

Freeport 28, Keystone Oaks 16 — The Yellowjackets are coming off their own tough loss in a showdown game with Seton-La Salle.

This week Freeport faces another tough opponent, but will bounce back for the win.

Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic 35, South Side 13 — You have to give the Trojans props for going for 2 after their final score and getting it for a 29-28 win over Riverside last week.

Scoop likes a team with guts.

This week should be a tad easier for North Catholic.

Karns City 49, Moniteau 16 — Both teams are a bit banged up heading into this rivalry game.

The Warriors are really banged up with six starters on defense questionable.

That’s not a good thing when going up against a Karns City offense looking to rebound from a loss to Clarion.

Clarion 45, Union/A-C Valley 15 — The Knight Falcons can scare teams with their offense, but Clarion is just too good.

The Bobcats showed as much with an impressive win against Karns City last week.

Wilmington 30, Slippery Rock 6 — The Rockets won’t be able to muster enough offense to topple the Greyhounds.

Grove City 31, Meadville 21 — The Eagles are 18-2 over the last season-plus. The two losses? Both to the Bulldogs.

The two teams are different than the ones that met in the season finale and District 10 5A title game last season.

Perhaps the marquee game this week, Grove City will pull it out and move to 9-0.

Northgate 34, Summit Academy 24 — Summit Academy has played well this season, but Northgate will have just enough to emerge victorious.

Scoop is thinking 100 wins again.
