Woman honored for cancer efforts
CRANBERRY TWP — Susan Evans of Cranberry Township was honored by Pittsburgh Mayor Bill Peduto on Sept. 18 for her work in raising awareness about ovarian cancer.
Peduto named Sept. 12 Susan Evans Day in the City of Pittsburgh for her work in advocating for more awareness and research funds to go toward ovarian cancer. Evans is a native of Ross Township, Allegheny County.
At Evans’ urging, the state Legislature designated September as Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month.
She also started the Evans-Krivak Gynecological Cancer Research and Education Fund.
Ovarian cancer is the fifth leading cause of cancer deaths among women and as no known screening test.
