BlueSox lose 5-3 at W. Virginia

West Virginia’s 3-run bottom of the sixth inning proved to be the difference as the Miners posted a key 5-3 Prospect League baseball victory over visiting Butler Tuesday night.

The three runs gave the Miners a 4-2 lead and were charged to starting pitcher Mark Gross, who did not survive the inning. He was lifted with two outs after allowing four runs on six hits with three strikeouts and three walks.

Pavin Parks paced Butler’s offense, going 3-for-5 with a double, run scored and two batted in.

Bryce Spak (1 1/3 innings) and Jake Stout (one) both pitched in relief for the Sox, with Stout surrendering West Virginia’s final run in the eighth inning.

Butler (29-21) holds a two-game lead over the Miners (26-22) for first place in the East Division. West Virginia hosts Butler again tonight.
