Gross wins for BlueSox
Rey Gonzalez’s two-run single in the top of the sixth inning was the decisive hit in Butler’s 4-3 Prospect League baseball victory at West Virginia Tuesday night.
Butler scored all four of its runs in the sixth frame to erase a 3-0 deficit. Tanner Murphy led off with a solo home run — his third of the season — and Patrick Ferguson drove in a run with a double. Gonzalez’s hit plated Kristian Webb and Ferguson.
West Virginia starting pitcher Michael Syrett was charged with the loss after working 5 2/3 innings.
The Sox received a 4-for-4 night from shortstop James Meeker, who is now batting .380.
The pitching win went to Butler High graduate Mark Gross, who allowed three runs on seven hits in 6 1/3 innings. He struck out three and walked two.
Ty Black held the Miners (11-13) scoreless over 2 2/3 innings of relief to pick up the save.
The BlueSox (12-11) conclude the two-game series at West Virginia tonight.
