BUFFALO TWP — Brandon Overton of Appleton, Ga., grabbed the early lead and held on for victory Saturday night in the Firecracker 100 at Lernerville Speedway.

Overton claimed the $30,000 top prize for his efforts in the World of Outlaws Late Model event.

The 100-lap race went non-stop, with no cautions for the first time in its 11-year history.

Overton held off Mike Marlar of Winfield, Tenn., and Tim McCreadie of Watertown, N.Y., in grabbing the checkered flag. Marlar also took second place in the preliminary 30-lap feature held Saturday afternoon.

Michael Norris of Sarver, who had the fastest qualifying time in the 45-car field at 16.889 seconds, finished ninth. Russ King of Bristolville, Ohio, was the highest finishing Lernerville regular, claiming seventh place.

McCreadie, Scott Bloomquist of Mooresburg, Tenn., Chris Madden of Gaffney, S.C. and Overton were the heat race winners.

G.R. Smith of Cornelius, N.C., won the $3,000 first-place money in the Uncle Sam 30. He beat out Boom Briggs of Bear Lake and Dan Angellichio of Mount Pleasant.

Brandon Sheppard of New Berlin, Ill., won the 30-lap feature Saturday afternoon. Chub Frank of Bear Lake finished third, behind Marlar. Indiana’s Gregg Satterlee took fifth place.
